Agenda Items

1. Safer Walking

·        Speed Restrictions Review

The Clerk wrote to Mr Mike Weston (B&NES Traffic Engineer) regarding the Councils request for a 40mph speed restriction between High Littleton and Hallatrow supported with the Council’s argument. Mr Weston replied that he has passed the Council’s letter to the Police asking if they will respond directly to the Council. No news. The Clerk was requested to chase the Police for a response.

·        Proposed road improvements and request for continuation of footway on the Wells Road , Hallatrow in connection with the traffic implications of the housing development in Paulton (old Polestar Site).

Mr R Hitchens drafted a letter to Mr Councillor Charles Gerrish regarding the Council’s request for the extension of the footway along the Wells Road and the opportunities lost in securing finance for this project. Copies were sent to the Councillors to review. The Council agreed that the letter should sent to Mr Gerrish and copied to Mr Les Kew, Mr David Trigwell (Divisional Director Plaaning & Transport Development) and Mr Nick Jeannes (Team Leader for Traffic and Safety).

·        Increasing number of vehicles using Harts Lane

The Clerk emailed Mr L Kew asking for developments. Mr Kew replied that he will look into the matter in the near future.

·        Vehicles driving on the footway – High Street

Mr Mike Weston wrote to the Council stating that he disagrees with the proposal of bollards as it would create unnecessary obstruction. The only solution he can see is raising the footway in the future when the low floor buses are introduced to the bus route. The Council discussed the matter. Mr P Wyatt will speak to Mr Weston and inform him that although he may claim that he has not seen anyone driving on the footway, the Council has received reports that this is not the case.

  • Speeding in Hallatrow

The Council discussed this matter and agreed to remove from the agenda.

2.  Parking matters

·        Parking on Eastover Road .

The Clerk wrote to Somer Housing Trust on the 24th June 2008 to request a response to the letter dated 17th March 2008. The Clerk received a reply that the matter is being passed to the Asset Management Department.
